Gel candles are not all created equal. There are several grades of gel on the market. Craft stores carry gel suitable for home-crafting use. On the top end of the scale is the gel used by the pharmaceuticals industry in our gel capsules -- the most expensive, purest, medical-grade white mineral oil gel available. It is from this gel that Gellite candles are made. Handcrafted in Ohio, the candles burn without lead, smoke or toxins of any kind. The fragrances used in Gellite candles differ from those used in wax candles in that they will not provoke asthmatic reaction, headache or nausea. Much has been written about the toxins being emitted in the smoke of wax candles. Toluene and benzene, in particular, are known carcinogens.
